On This Day Last Year: A NEW Trip Report Series // Day 1 of 17

Hello, friends!  I'm back after a splendid summer hiatus and am so excited to kick off a fresh new addition to my trip report series today!  I've decided that this time around I'm going to do things a little differently.  I will be sharing the deets from the family vacation we took August 31st - September 16th, 2018 on this August 31st through September 16th.  That's right, each day for the next two and a half weeks I'll be sharing our adventures from that day last year!

I'm looking forward to getting this incredible trip documented for my family to look back on in blog post form while also sharing all the fun with you, my dear readers and cherished friends!  Thanks for being here today!  I hope you enjoy these posts and perhaps you'll find something fun to add to your family travel wish list too.  Let the fun of adventure recapping begin!

Platt Family Vacation 2018
A road trip from our home in the Midwest all the way to to our "vacation home" in Walt Disney World, with many awe-inspiring stops along the way!

Day 1 - Friday, August 31, 2018

On the road again...

Our first stop was at one of our favorite pizzerias for lunch on the road.  Jason and I had been eating a low carb diet for the four months leading up to this trip, so this was the moment that officially ushered us into full on vacation mode!

I love dipping their breadsticks (and pizza too) in creamy Italian dressing - yum!

Since I knew we'd be eating quite a few meals on the road throughout our travels I packed disposable plates in each of our favorite colors.  For just $4 I had a simple way to make everyone smile that also made serving, eating, and cleaning up these meals on the road a breeze!  If you don't already know this, I'm a pink lady.  If you see a plate in this pretty shade that food is all mine! Ha!

Anyone else remember playing travel bingo on road trips?  Such timeless fun!

Crossing the Illinois state line

We grabbed dinner from Steak 'n Shake.  It's always fun to hit places that we don't have in our hometown.  The line was long, but the view from the drive-thru looked out at the river and some beautiful architecture which made for a pleasant wait.

It was an absolutely carbilicious meal!

Clearly this silly girl enjoyed it too! :)

As did this handsome hamburger loving hunk!

A random snapshot showcasing a spoon and a silly hairdo capture the giddy and giggly mood of vacation excitement paired with many hours in the car!

We made it to our first stop, Hampton Inn & Suites in Danville, IL,  and not a moment too soon.  We were all ready to crash for the night.

Thanks so much for popping by the first of seventeen posts in this new edition of trip reports!  I hope you'll be back to hear more in the days to come!

  1. Welcome back! Hope you had an incredible summer! It will be so much fun to read your recaps from the previous year! Also, I think I know where you stopped in IL for Steak 'n' Shake ... Peoria, IL! I am originally from Bloomington-Normal, IL and just recently relocated to Minnesota and its a bit of a culture shock! :) What's your favorite part of road tripping?

    1. Thank you so much for reading and for your sweet comment! It was a joy to receive! :) The Steak 'n' Shake we visited was in Peoria, IL. What a keen eye you've got! My favorite things about road tripping are seeing the gorgeousness of creation and watching the landscape change as we make our way across the country. On this trip we saw everything from mountain tops to ocean views - so stunning! I love "getting away from it all" with those dearest to my heart, experiencing new things as a family, creating memories we'll cherish for a lifetime, and eating all the deliciousness along the way! Fun question! :)
